The Killing Spell follows Kea Petrova, a young Hawaiian woman who must solve a political assassination when the murderer uses a Hawaiian spell, in order to protect her community from being assimilated. This urban fantasy explores the power of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi and its revitalization in a world where language is literally magic.

Shay Kauwe is a Kanaka Maoli author from the island of Oʻahu in Hawaiʻi. She grew up on the Homestead in Waimānalo but moved to Russia because she fell in love with a boy. Her and the boy now live in Honolulu with their poi dog, Iris.
