Anahola Bay is a generally mellow spot on Kauaʻi’s northeast shore that can suit a wide range of surfers depending on swell size. Waves break along the northern edge of the barrier reef, beyond a calm inside lagoon.
On smaller days, conditions are approachable for beginners and intermediates. When winter swells arrive, the main reef wave becomes faster and more powerful, better suited to experienced surfers. Anahola has a wide North Pacific swell window and is at its best during winter storm activity, especially with south to west winds.
Some competition — timing matters. Crowds fluctuate; busier on clean winter days when the reef is firing.
