SUMMARY:39th Annual Kauai Japanese Matsuri Festival
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by the Kauai Japanese Cultural Society\, this annual event showcases traditional and contemporary Japanese culture and arts from folk dancing (Minyo\, Azuma and Min) to Cosplay\, Kendama and Musubi Making Contests.  Contestants are encouraged to create and wear their Cosplay fashions and enter the contest.  New this year are Gyotaku (Fish Screen Painting)\, Kimono and Hapi-Haori Coat Fashion Show in addition to the  three contests.  Starting the day will be Taiko drumming by Kauai Taiko followed by Tsunami Taiko who will both perform traditional and contemporary music pieces. Throughout the day there will be displays and sessions on Chanoyu (Japanese Tea Ceremony)\, Ikebana (Flower Arranging)\, Bonsai\, Calligraphy and Mochi Pounding (attendees will have an opportunity to enjoy free samples of matcha green tea and the sweet rice (mochi) pounded flour shaped into round sweet cakes).   This free event is sponsored by the Society in partnership with the County of Kauai\, Hawaii Tourism Authority\, Kauai Visitors Bureau\, Kekaha Agriculture Association\, Kauai Island Utility Cooperative and numerous community organizations.  Food and beverage vendors will also be available to sell products throughout the day from 9:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  For more information\, contact (808)635-4130 or visit http://www.kauajcs.org.

The opening reception will held on June 8th  in conjunction with World Oceans Day.

DESCRIPTION:Discover the South Shore’s gourmet farmers market\, which boasts over 25 local farmers and vendors offering fresh produce and unique local delights. \n  \nIn partnership with the Kauai County Farm Bureau\, our culinary market features fresh fruits and vegetables as well as other specialties and local products – all Kauai grown and made. The weekly Kauai Culinary Market provides the community with an option to purchase essential goods while supporting local farmers\, producers and vendors. \n  \nSocial distancing guidelines will be in place and all safety precautions will be strictly followed: \n\nSocial distance of at least 6 feet from any other person will be maintained.\nFace mask will be worn at all times.\nHand sanitation stations will be provided.\nHigh-touch areas will be frequently sanitized.\nPersonal social interactions will be limited.

SUMMARY:Washed Up Marine Debris Art Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Washed Up is an annual art Exhibit hosted by the Kauai Society of Artists and it’s Co-Sponsor\, Surfrider Foundation Kauai Chapter. On display at this exhibit are unique artworks created out of marine debris that was cleaned up off of Kauai shorelines. Artist use the medium of marine debris to create amazing art in order bring awareness to the the issue and inspire attendees to take action. The exhibit also showcases steps that the average consumer can take to prevent plastic pollution. The show is really interesting and unusual and runs from June 7-28th. The opening reception will held on June 8th  in conjunction with World Oceans Day.
